Family of Dmytro Holovin

Despite the fact that he was raising his two young children alone, Dmytro Holovin was not looking to find ways to avoid the third cycle of the call-up for military service. He accepted the induction notice and went to carry out his duty.

Unfortunately, on February 1, 2015, Dmytro was killed. Only sometime later Dmytro’s fellow soldiers reveal the details of his tragic death.  They told that after the operating site of their battalion was shelled by the terrorists, Dmytro and another young soldier ended up in the dug-out shelter with no bullets. The terrorists surrounded the shelter knowing that someone was there and started shouting “Go out!”. Dmytro gave an order to the young soldier to stay and decided to leave the shelter himself. The terrorists pulled him down and shot him in the head.

Dmytro sacrificed his own life to save the life of his fellow soldier who was younger. The terrorists decided not to check the shelter as they thought it was empty, so they left.

After his death, the Hero left behind his 12-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter. The kids live with their grandmother in Volyn region. The family is sincerely grateful for the support!
